Overview

This article is intended for Dwight Global employees who've received a new laptop from Dwight School IT and are working remotely.

The below instructions will guide you through the Out-of-box experience through the Dwight Global laptop onboarding process. The entire process should take about 20 minutes depending on your internet connection speed.

Use this checklist to confirm you've complete the process:

Completed Setup Assistant and got logged in to your computer

✔ Completed "Dwight Global Laptop Enrollment" policy to install software

✔ Rebooted and successfully changed password using Jamf Connect

STOP! Do not proceed unless you have access to a high speed internet connection, do not attempt on a cellular or metered connection. This process will consume large amounts of data.

The steps below may look slight different on your machine. Please connect to Wifi when prompted by the setup assistant, that section is not covered here.

How to onboard your new laptop

1. Power on your new machine and choose your appropriate language

2. Proceed through following pages, you should eventually see a page titled Remote Management, press Continue

If you do not see this screen the rest of the process will fail, please contact helpdesk@dwight.edu

3. When you reach the below sign-in screen, you will enter your username + @dwight.edu. For example Mickey Mouse would be mmouse@dwight.edu, press Next, enter the temporary password supplied to you by IT, click Sign in.

Even if you are a Dwight Global user, you will use @dwight.edu as the domain here, this is different than your email address.

4. Once your Mac loads to the Desktop, you will see an app called Self Service open, and an alert asking your permission to notify you. Please select ALLOW

Self Service is a software repository that Dwight IT may direct you to in order to install some apps. It's located in the Applications folder.

5. Once you select Allow, in Self Service find the policy called "Dwight Global Laptop Enrollment" and click RUN. This will launch another progress indicator to let you know what it's doing. This process performs the following:

  • installs standard software packages from Dwight
    • Google Chrome
    • Microsoft Office
    • Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop
  • makes your account a local admin, allowing you to make changes and install software, printers, etc.

6. Once this is complete it will prompt you to reboot, please click REBOOT button.

7. After machine reboots, please log in, the final step is to update your password.

Please follow instructions below carefully, DO NOT update your password from System Preferences, all password changes must happen from Jamf Connect

  • Find the icon for Jamf Connect in the menu bar at the top right of the screen, click icon to reveal dropdown menu.
  • select "Change Password" enter your old temporary password and new password of your choosing.
